The end of omerta?

PGMA announces through Spokesman Bunye that she's finally breaking her nun-like vow of silence today at 7PM.

What's your fearless forecast, folks? It's interesting to see how she'll manage to wriggle her way out of the Gordian knot or Catch 22 by flatly denying everything. Whether her reaction will be believable or not, I'm afraid any reaction by this time is too late. Anyone who's falsely accused has one of two reactions, normally speaking: (1) a hell-hath-no-fury kind of vehemence and (2) derisive, hyena-like laughter. Just take a look at Susan Roces. Take a look at Bishop Oscar Cruz. I, personally, find myself incapable of hating these two people, and I don't care who their friends might be (Marcoses? Erap?).

It's a tragic thing that PGMA never reacted publicly in either way. Now that her mug as some smug version of Medusa has been plastered all over the walls of the metro, I'm afraid any damage-control would by now be worth multimillion dollars, baby, i.e., if it's worth controlling at all. (Good job! to whoever orchestrated all this in the interest of a sincere..urm, power-grab?)

Of course we never expect our politicians to be paragons of transparence to the point of naivete, but we expect them to be at least believable in the statesman-like manner. There's a kind of communicating partial truths without meaning to lie, without making a barefaced, deceptive lie -- old-school public relations, or better yet, diplomacy. But PGMA failed even on both counts. Will she succeed this time around?

Your two centavos, please.
